REMINDER: Nominations Due 3/30/18 for ADP Civic Engagement Awards

REMINDER: Nominations are due March 30, 2018 for the American Democracy Project’s three national civic engagement awards. Recipients will be announced at the ADP organizing meeting and breakfast at our 2018 Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement Meeting in Anaheim, California.

Plater Award for Leadership in Civic Engagement
AASCU’s American Democracy Project seeks nominations for the William M. Plater Award for Leadership in Civic Engagement. The Award is given each year to an AASCU chief academic officer in recognition of his or her leadership in advancing the civic mission of the campus. Funded through the generosity of Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis, the award acknowledges the critical leadership role that chief academic officers play in helping make an institution intentional about its public mission to prepare undergraduates as informed, engaged citizens.

Saltmarsh Award for Emerging Leaders in Civic Engagement
AASCU’s American Democracy Project seeks nominations for the John Saltmarsh Award for Emerging Leaders in Civic Engagement.  The Saltmarsh Award is presented annually to an emerging leader in the civic engagement field from an AASCU institution. Support for the award comes from royalties from the 2011 book “To Serve a larger Purpose”: Engagement for Democracy and the Transformation of Higher Education (Temple University Press) edited by John Saltmarsh and Matthew Hartley.

AASCU’s American Democracy Project seeks nominations for the Barbara Burch Award for Faculty Leadership in Civic Engagement. The Burch Award is presented annually to a senior faculty member in the civic engagement field from an AASCU institution.

 

Call for Nominations: ADP’s 2018 Civic Engagement Awards

Nominations are due March 31, 2018 for the American Democracy Project’s three national civic engagement awards. Recipients will be announced at the ADP organizing meeting and breakfast at our 2018 Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement Meeting in Anaheim, California.

Please consider nominating yourself or a colleague and be sure to submit nomination materials electronically as a single PDF document with appropriate cover sheet. You’ll find details about each award below as well as in the included links and materials.

ADP Awards Nominations are Due Friday, 3/31

American Democracy Project Awards

Nomination materials for the 2017 American Democracy Project awards are due electronically to adp@aascu.org by Friday, March 31, 2017. Awardees will be announced on June 8, 2017 at the ADP Organizing Meeting at the 2017 Civic Learning and Democratic Engagement Meeting in Baltimore, Md.

  • Barbara Burch Award: The Barbara Burch Award for Faculty Leadership in Civic Engagement is given in recognition of exemplary faculty leadership in advancing the civic learning and engagement of undergraduate students and advancing the work of AASCU’s American Democracy Project on campus and/or nationally.
  • William M. Plater Award: The William M. Plater Award for Leadership in Civic Engagement is given in recognition of exemplary leadership of AASCU chief academic officers or provosts in advancing the civic learning of undergraduates through programs and activities that encourage greater knowledge, skills, experiences and reflection about the role of citizens in a democracy.
  • John Saltmarsh Award: The John Saltmarsh Award for Emerging Leaders in Civic Engagement is given in recognition of exemplary early-career leaders who are advancing the wider civic engagement movement through higher education to build a broader public culture of democracy.
