By Cecilia M. Orphan, National Manager, American Democracy Project
Kids Talk Democracy was an amazing project to work on which reminded me of how smart elementary school children are, and how cognizant they are of the intricacies of complex notions about democracy, freedom, and compromise. As educators, we often think that we are the ones teaching our students. This video shows that we also have a lot to learn from them as well. These children give me hope that we will have a brighter, more engaged future.
I hope this video will inspire ADP campuses around the country to work with their local K-12 schools to develop the civic skills of their students, as well as to listen to the voices of children, hear their hopes for the future, and hopefully become inspired. The short Kids Talk Democracy documentary is now available online. To view photos from the filming of Kids Talk, please visit the ADP Facebook page.
